In this video, Tim Halvorsen shows you how to control which side is defined as the face-up -side for your DXF export. You just need to select the flat pattern, click on edit feature, and SOLIDWORKS will highlight the fixed face for you. You can then select another fixed face by clicking on the desired face in your model.
